If you are talking about normal metered taxi (not the limousine type), the price you can bargain (yes, bargain, as soon as you hop into the taxi) is 1100B to 1300B depending time and how many people you are travelling with. The driver may accept your offer but ask you to pay for the hi-way toll. hi-way toll is about 50B only.
Above answer is correct. If you pay any more than 1500 baht, you’re getting ripped off.
Barter, barter barter and be prepared to walk away if you’re not getting offered a good price. It’s amazing how quickly the driver will come around & accept the price you’re offering.
A good tip for you – don’t get a taxi at the arrivals section of the airport. Go upstairs & get one at departures as they drop passengers off. A lot quicker than standing in the long queues downstairs
Oops, just realised that the new Bangkok airport is open now, it’s actually a lot closer to Pattaya than the old Don Muang airport, so you should be able to get an even better rate – start bartering at 800 baht & don’t go over 1000.
