what economy hotel is near all the bars in Pattaya (thailand)?

Question by L.C. 77: what economy hotel is near all the bars in Pattaya (thailand)?
I'll be going to Pattaya in a few weeks and like hitting up the bars for drinking, shooting pool or just flirting with the ladies. What economy rate hotel is within walking distance of all the fun?

Answer by karazyal
What amount of money do you want to spend on a hotel room? Saying you want an "economy" price is meaningless! For some travelers only paying 2000 or 3000 baht per night is an economy price. For others paying 200 - 250 baht for a crappy cold water/fan only room is what they want.

There are so many bars in Pattaya so that no one single hotel is convenient to all of them! But, if you have a hotel that is close to Pattaya 2nd Road or Beach Road you can use the cheap baht bus rides to get to other parts of Pattaya pretty easy.

Here is a hotel you can use for one night and a link to a hotel chain that has various priced rooms in Pattaya. I like this area because you can easily walk to many places.

Honey Inn Hotel will run around 550-600 baht now if you tell them that is all you will pay. Other hotels on this same Soi Honey Inn that range from 250 baht on up to 900 baht for one night. The cheapest 250 baht will be a fan room, maybe cold water. Honey Inn will have air, H.W., private toilet/shower, cable TV and safety box at the front desk. Restaurant is pretty good. Lots of other hotels on this same soi, short walk to baht bus rides on Pattaya 2nd Road and Beach Road for north and south travel. Easy to walk to lots and lots of bars and restaurants, etc. Guest friendly too!

Spend one night and then look around. Off season you can get many places on a walk-in.

Sawasdee Hotel chain.

Other hotels at higher prices available, Soi Buakhaw has some cheap places too!

Good luck.

no - not been there often but have friends who live there and they do not report problems -

what might be inteesting would be if you could ask Thai people if and what problems they have had with Westerners..

What is best to me may not be best to you!

For Bangkok if you had a hotel in the Sukhumvit Area, near the Nana Skytrain, you would be in an area where you can walk to many places - such as travel agents for tours, bars, restaurants, malls, small souvenir shops, street vendors and internet shops.

Also, for Bangkok if you had a hotel near the Skytrain (such as Nana or Asok) you can use that overhead train service to take you around town.

http://bangkok.sawadee.com/skytrain.htm

For any taxi you take in Bangkok only pay the meter charge. Avoid the tuk-tuks, they are more expensive than the meter taxis. Also, if you wave a moving taxi down they are more likely to use the meter. Any taxi parked outside a hotel or bus station will most likely want to bargain the fare - you pay more then!

In Pattaya where you have your hotel will make it easier to get around. I prefer a hotel near Pattaya 2nd Road, roughly between Soi 8 to Mike Mall - to the Soi Buakhaw area. Lots of low priced hotels in this area. You can walk to many places from this area. Several malls, travel agents for tours, bars, restaurants, street vendors, etc.

To get to Pattaya from Bangkok you can take the Skytrain to the Ekamai bus station. Go to the Pattaya window, right side of building and purchase the bus ticket for the VIP bus. Ride will take 2 hours. At the Pattaya bus station you can pay 20 baht for a ride down to Beach Road and walk from there to a hotel.

In Pattaya wave a MOVING baht bus down, hop on, when the bus gets to your stop or near where you need to change direction - push button/buzzer on the ceiling and pay 10 baht only (unless you look Thai then it is 5 baht!) These are set bus runs, just like back home. They run a set route, if you need a different direction then change to a different bus - like back home! Avoid parked baht buses because they will want to bargain the price and you pay more. When you tell the driver where to go then you pay a custom price.

Use this map for reference.

For specific hotel recommendations mention how much you want to spend in Thai baht for a room per night.

You can find anything you want to eat in Pattaya! Western foods, Asian foods from Korea and Japan, Chinese food and of course Thai foods in all varieties. My favorite is "all you can eat" breakfast buffets, they are cheap and have lots to choose from. I can fill up in the morning and not need anything until around 5 pm. All you can eat buffets from the Lek Hotel and the Apex Hotel (both on Pattaya 2nd Road) are only 110 baht!

Food courts in Pattaya and in Bangkok are another good place to check out some Thai foods real cheap. Food courts are in many malls. Also, supermarkets like Tops, Foodland and the new Villa Market have "in store" restaurants that are cheap and offer good value. When I want something cheap and filling I get fried rice. Of course there is the tourist food traps like Burger Kings, KFC's, McDonalds, etc. all over the place!

Good luck.
